Kadu, ceramic jug in food-safe quality
The swan shaped ceramic jug is lead and cadmium free and hence it is food safe. It contains approximately 0,6 L. and is 30 cm in height. Circumference is 34 cm, and it weighs approx. 420 gr. The bottom is signed by the artist.
The Kadu jug is richly illustrated with floral motifs of tulips and carnations. These flowers have for centuries played a significant role in Turkish culture, art and history. Being a visitor to the country you will therefore be able to find this kind of flower motifs on merely everything – from textiles, paintings, pottery, to ceramics and mosaics – and even on buildings and agoras. As such, the swan jug combines different time periods in Turkish history – the swan shape originating from the Hittites and the decorations from the Ottoman Empire. An inspiring and elegant ceramic jug, that without doubt will brighten up and provide atmosphere to your dinner table.
The Hittites
The Hittites were an advanced civilization living in Anatolia more than 4000 years ago. Their culture is known to have been both artistic and innovative, and they were among the first people in the world that had a written & structural system in the line of wine production, trading and legislation. The Hittites were also advanced and skilled artisans, and a wide range of artefacts has been found showing that this amazing culture have used carefully ornamented and creatively shaped ceramics and pottery – both for serving food and for decoration purposes.
The Hittites are famous for both their style and for their usage of vivid colors and meticulous decorations – and not the least – for their uniquely shaped wine decanters, illustrating their religious belief in the Sun God Ra.
